Detail Shots Without A Macro Lens

tips and tutorials

I'm not sure about you, but I try to be as smart with money as possible. So, when it came time for me to make the decision whether or not to purchase a macro lens, I decided to wait.

I know, I know....you're thinking, "WHAT?! Haley, you're a wedding photographer, how can you NOT have a macro lens?"

For me the purchase just didn't make sense. I mean, yeah, I photograph details like rings and jewelry at almost every wedding, BUT those shots are such a small part of the big picture that I would rather invest the big bucks into education, lighting, etc.

There are a few different ways you can go about photographing details without a macro lens, but my favorite method is to purchase a set of macro filters. I purchased mine on Amazon for about $20 and I love them so much! They come in a slim case that easily slides in my camera bag and they aren't bulky like a set of extension tubes. They simply just screw onto your lens just like any other filter and you're good to go!

So, if you find yourself needing a macro lens, give a set of macro filters a try. They're inexpensive and they produce amazing results!
